Can I just start by saying i am both super excited and super nervous about writing my first blog post! Most of you know me… I have probably answered your phone call or greeted you when you walked into Hello Gorgeous Salon. If not then hello!
My name is Haley Aita. I was born and raised in Gilroy, California. I live now in San Juan Bautista. I didn’t get into this industry the way most do. I didn’t grow up knowing that I wanted to do hair or makeup. I never did my friends’ makeup for prom or cut off all my Barbie’s hair. I got into this industry because of one thing… I love people!
When I graduated High School I had intentions of getting a degree in both Psychology and Nutrition. I was obsessed with figuring out why people felt bad about themselves and figure out how to change their mindset. Growing up I had a lot of self-esteem issues and I know what it feels like to feel terrible about yourself.
After I got out of High School my mindset changed. I started buying cute clothes, doing my hair and makeup and working out. I set up a path to confidence. When college didn’t work out for me I had to choose another field. So I picked what made me feel best… Beauty!
Now I am in the best career! I work in an amazing salon with 2 amazing stylists. I am engrossed in a culture that is purely positive, loving and supportive. We strive to help each other grow and work hard to create the best environment and experience for our guests.
Which brings me to my topic… Do you feel bad spending time and money on your image?
I used to… I spent a big majority of my life feeling guilt and shame about wanting to look good. I was always so afraid that people were going to think I was conceited or shallow. I felt like my money SHOULD be spent on more “reasonable” things.
No, getting your hair colored, getting extensions, buying products isn’t a necessity. Buying clothes that make you feel good isn’t a necessity. There are a lot of people that don’t think relaxing is a necessity, but it is all about what you value.
I value my confidence, my attitude, my energy and yes… these are all related to my image! When I wear cute clothes I walk a little taller. When I have a good hair day I smile more. When I feel good I don’t look down when people walk by… I say hello! I can honestly say looking good makes me better in my career, in my relationships and feel better on the inside.
So in my opinion spending time and money on yourself might not be a necessity… but it is something to value.
So stop feeling bad about wanting to feel good. Stop seeing it as spending time and money on an image and start thinking about how it changes you! Figure out what you value (it might not be getting your hair done and that is okay too!) and you’ll start seeing things in a whole new light.
Good Vibes Only ✌🏻,
Haley Marie Aita
